Greggonomics 10: Focus Over Noise (and The TBG Partnership)
I was going to skip Greggonomics this week.
Not because I had nothing to say, but because I had to recognise, consciously, that not everything can always be done at once.
The “Skip” Week: Recognising Limits
The last four weeks have been unusually compressed – bookended by two full mediator training weeks. In between those, I had a three-day visit to Belfast focused on AI and dispute resolution, followed immediately by London Arbitration Week, with all the conversations, meetings, and thinking time that brings.
By the time this week arrived, I was into the second bookend – the second full mediator training week. At that point, the choice was clear.
I could either produce something for the sake of consistency, or I could accept that the limited headspace I had was better spent on the day-to-day work of the business. That work included several difficult decisions – decisions that needed attention, clarity, and space.
So rather than forcing something fully formed, I opted for something lighter – and more honest.
The Positive Footnote: A New Partnership with TBG
There is, however, one update worth sharing.
During this same period, we formally cemented our partnership with The Barrister Group (TBG). Thank you to Stephen Ward in particular for all the hard work to get us this far.
For now, that partnership is focused primarily on mediator training – but it represents something more structural: alignment, scale, and a shared view of where professional dispute resolution training needs to go next.
I will write more about that in due course.
For now, this is simply a reminder – to myself as much as anyone – that focus is not the same thing as absence.
Why Performance Matters More Than Noise
I try to finish each Greggonomics with a quote, and this one felt appropriate for a week where the work had to take precedence over the noise:
I’m too busy putting my energies into my performance to be a diva.
– Shirley Bassey
Because clients don’t pay for the noise we make; they pay for the performance we deliver.
See you next time, Gregg
