Streamlining Redress: Introducing the 2026 ABTA Arbitration Rules and Tarbi 2.0
At Hunt ADR, we have always believed that the efficiency of the UK travel industry relies on a dispute resolution infrastructure that is as agile as the market itself. As the independent engine behind travel arbitration for ABTA members – including TUI, Virgin, Jet2, and EasyJet – as well as major independents like LoveHolidays and On the Beach, we are committed to continuous improvement for both travel brands and their customers.
To that end, we are pleased to announce two significant developments effective for applications submitted from 1 January 2026: the implementation of the 2026 Edition of the ABTA Arbitration Rules and the launch of Tarbi 2.0.
The 2026 Edition of the ABTA Arbitration Rules represents a strategic refinement of our processes. Based on feedback from claimants and respondents alike, we have focused on two primary goals: speed and clarity.
The key changes include:
- Optimized Timing & Delivery: We have tightened the procedural timeline to ensure that disputes move toward a final award with minimal friction. This reflects our commitment to providing a faster, more predictable alternative to the court system.
- Removal of the “Comments” Stage: Historically, this stage often led to significant customer confusion. We frequently saw it used to simply rehash existing claims or as an attempt to introduce new information late in the day. This added unnecessary complexity and extended timelines to the ultimate benefit of nobody. By removing this stage, we ensure the process remains focused, transparent, and significantly faster for all parties.
These updates ensure that the ABTA scheme remains the gold standard for consumer redress in the travel sector, benefiting both the travel companies and their customers by delivering finality sooner.
Intelligence in Practice: Meet Tarbi 2.0
As we modernize the rules, we are also modernizing how users interact with them. Our proprietary AI assistant, Tarbi, has undergone a major upgrade to coincide with the new regulations.
Tarbi 2.0 is specifically calibrated to the 2026 ABTA Arbitration Rules. While the original Tarbi continues to support existing routes, the 2.0 version serves as a sophisticated triage and support tool for new applications submitted under the 2026 framework.
What Tarbi 2.0 offers:
- Eligibility Support: Instant guidance on whether a claim fits within the 2026 framework.
- Procedural Navigation: Step-by-step assistance through the updated timelines and requirements.
- Correct Routing: Ensuring that enquiries are directed to the right channels from the very first interaction, reducing delays caused by incomplete or misdirected applications.
